Ask five operators what a tempo traveller costs in Bangalore and you will get five answers, because most of them are quoting different things. One means the vehicle only. One has folded in the driver. One is quietly assuming you will pay the toll at Attibele yourself.

## The per-kilometre rates
Every rate below is per kilometre and includes the driver.

The 12+1 tempo traveller is what most groups end up in. It is the vehicle people mean when they search "tempo traveller rent Bangalore", and it is comfortable for eight to twelve adults with luggage.
## What is not in that rate
This is the part that causes arguments, so we will be blunt about it. The per-km figure does not include:
- **Driver bata** � the driver's daily allowance for food and accommodation on overnight trips
- **Toll gates, parking and state permits** � a Kerala or Tamil Nadu run needs an interstate permit
- **Applicable taxes**
- **Monument and entry fees**
- **Safari rides and adventure activities**
- **Meals and accommodation for your group**
We quote these on top rather than burying them in a bigger per-km number. It looks less tidy in an ad. It means the figure you agree is the figure you pay.
## How the minimum kilometre rule works
Almost every operator in the city, us included, bills on a minimum daily distance for outstation trips � usually 250 to 300 km per day. If your group drives 180 km on day two, you are still billed for the minimum.
That is not a trick. The vehicle and driver are committed to you for the whole day whether you use the distance or not. But it does change the arithmetic, so build it into your estimate rather than being surprised by it.
## Worked example: Bangalore to Ooty and back
Bangalore to Ooty is roughly 270 km each way. A two-night trip with local sightseeing in the Nilgiris runs to about 700 km of actual driving.
- 700 km � ?22/km (AC tempo traveller) = **?15,400**
- Driver bata for two nights
- Tolls, parking and the Tamil Nadu permit
- Your own hotel, food and entry tickets
So the vehicle line is around ?15,400, and the extras above are quoted separately once we know your exact route. For twelve people sharing, the transport works out near ?1,300 a head � which is the calculation worth doing before you compare it against twelve individual bus tickets.
## When a tempo traveller beats two cars
Groups of eight to twelve often ask whether two Innovas would be cheaper. Two Innova Crystas at ?20/km each is ?40/km combined, against ?22/km for one AC tempo traveller. The tempo is cheaper and the group stays together, which matters more than people expect on a hill route where cars get separated at every turn.
Below seven or eight people the maths flips and a single Innova or Ertiga is the better call.
